Who is this practice karate for?
- All adults (14+ yrs) are welcome to join us!
- We also have a separate kids class (10-13yrs).
Who is the instructor?
- Greg Oliver is our Head Instructor. Please also see the Instructors page to learn about the all the black belts who assist Greg with instruction.
Can I try out a practice before making a commitment?
- Yes, you are welcome to try two practices before making a commitment. Please note that the Community Center requires a small drop-in fee ($11).
How should I prepare for my first practice?
- Wear loose, comfortable workout clothes
- Remove all jewelry (such as earrings or any other piercings, rings, bracelets, watches, etc)
- Toenails and finger nails must be trimmed
- Remove shoes and socks before entering the dojo
When are practices held?
- We have adult (14+ yrs) group practice twice a week – Thursdays 6:45-8:30pm and Sundays 12:30-2pm.
- Kids (10-13 yrs) group practice takes place twice a week – Thursdays 6:45-7:30pm and Sundays 2-3pm.

How much are practice fees?
- Practice fees are based on Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center’s rates, which can be found here. There is a drop-in rate ($11), and multiple options for membership rates.
How do I register for class?
- Class registration must be done through Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center’s front desk.
Do I need a Gi (uniform) to practice?
- Yes, a Gi is required starting in your second month of practice. A basic Gi can be found online for as little as $20.
Do I need prior karate or martial arts knowledge to practice?
- No, members of all experience levels are welcome.
Will there be opportunities to move up in Belt Ranking?
- Yes, we have belt grading in April and November each year. These months coincide with Master Funakoshi’s birth and death. See Kyu Test.
